Tower Hamlets Summer University (THSU) brings together young people from diverse backgrounds for an enriching educational experience over the summer and at other times of the year. Aged between 11 and 25 they have the chance to experiment and sample new learning opportunities.

Piloted in 1995, THSU is celebrating its tenth successive year in 2005 and is firmly established locally as an organisation with a strong identity and appeal for young people. Pioneering innovative approaches to independent learning, the organisation has gained respect nationally as a model of good practice in the field of study support and out of school hours learning.

The programme we run has proven to have a significant impact on young people’s attitude to learning. This has been recognised by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and the New Opportunities Fund (NOF), which have both used THSU as an example of good practice in their study support and grants programme guidance.
